Tears of the Kingdom, the highly anticipated sequel to Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is expected to release in stores and online on the 12th of May 2023. Unfortunately over the weekend, it managed to leak online early.
If you do not want the game spoiled, I recommend not to watch Zelda / Nintendo-related video content on YouTube or other social media platforms. We’ve seen content appear on Facebook and Reddit, as well as full streams appearing on the likes of YouTube.
We won’t be posting any of the content here, it wouldn’t be fair to spoil the experience. We will, however, be posting our review once the game is released and we’ve had a chance to play through it.
One thing I will say though, judging by thoughts online it is definitely time for a Switch Pro or Switch 2, Nintendo released the Switch originally in March of 2017.
Our thoughts here at HTS is that it is time for a revision, imagine your colourful Nintendo games at 60fps at 1440p or 4K (I wish). Currently, Switch games can be viewed in 720p (Handheld) or 1080p (Docked) but the resolution and framerate often dips and crashes. Just look at this Digital Foundry YouTube Video.
From reports just like BOTW, TOTK is on average 30fps but does dip to the teens. I would of love for Nintendo to have made this a flagship title for a new console, I guess a little bit like what happened with the Wii U BOTW, that was in development and then they shifted focus to the Switch version.
It is even possible to emulate the Wii U version using Cemu a popular emulator and get higher graphics packs and an 60fps mod.
