The Early Days

Carl Hamilton started in IT and technology at a very early age. He had computers both at school and at home when he was young. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. Early on, he learned some BASIC coding on an old Commodore and BBC computers and worked with his teachers in the computer labs. He got his first part-time professional opportunity at 13 years old when, over the summer, he worked helping an American entrepreneur. They had Novel setup with Windows workstations. Then, in high school, he got to work on an early Microsoft NT 4.0 roll-out and helped design a network that formally was setup using Windows ME (I shudder at the thought now). This early experience gave him a young start on his journey to being an IT professional.

Hamilton Systems is unique because our Founder, in fact, holds the CTO/CISO titles. He is still highly involved and passionate about the technology our team and clients use. Today, it helps him take high-level business requirements and ensure they are delivered to the configuration level.

Carl Hamilton’s Early Career

In his early days, Carl Hamilton got his first full-time job as an IT specialist at Zenith, a Technology company now shut down. He built most of the early IT environment from the ground up before working with Fujitsu and taking part in the design and setup of the Olympics 2012 setup. Other opportunities presented themselves along the way, including chances to do consulting work with small businesses on nights and weekends. Carl started to see a significant need for smaller firms, sub-500 people, to have access to high-quality IT support and IT department-style resources without the required spending.

In 2015, Carl Hamilton finally set off to form Hamilton Group, formally Hamilton Systems. Initially starting as a traditional break-fix, IT Support company called Cygnatech Managed Services, Carl quickly saw the industry moving to a Managed IT Services Provider model and away from break-fix. In the early days of Hamilton Systems, one of the constant challenges was working with customers to address issues and aging hardware before becoming an issue proactively, not after becoming an emergency. The fixed fee MSP model allowed us to pivot to provide the proactive support our clients needed at a price they could afford.

Carl recognised that he wanted to be involved in the brand more, this took the decision to rename Cygnatech to Hamilton Technology Solutions and then we finally settled on Hamilton Group Ltd, Trading as Hamilton Systems in 2023.

Hamilton Group has been lucky to experience consistent growth over the years.
